Ionospheric effects correction of ALOS PALSAR interferometry in Antarctica

SAR interferometry is a promising tool to monitor ice sheets and glaciers in Antarctica. However, low frequency SAR signals can be seriously affected by the ionosphere. This paper firstly presents possible examples of ionospheric effects on ALOS PALSAR interferograms. Multi-aperture interferometry from forward- and back-looking interferograms is effective to know whether ionospheric effects exist or not. Next this paper introduces an approach to correct them using only SAR data itself.
