Methods for simulation of the wireless propagation channel for DAB/DAB+/DMB-SDR-receivers

In this paper, fundamental methods are proposed to model the multipath power-delay profile of frequency selective wireless channels with the focus on Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB/DAB+/DMB). Beside the well known specifications COST 207 [1] and EN 50248 [2], there exist additional channel profiles for hilly regions with longer echoes especially for DAB, which are not covered in this two standards. The proposed methods convert these measured (continuous) power-delay profiles to discrete parameters (average path delay and path gain) of a tapped-delay line channel model to simulate the complete transmission channel of a DAB system. Beside the statistical procedure via Monte Carlo simulation [3] it is another deterministic and computationally efficient method to simulate the wireless propagation channel especially for DAB. The performance of the proposed algorithms is investigated with respect to the frequency correlation function (FCF), average path delay and delay spread.
