Study of chemically synthesized Ag NP's by varied characterization techniques

Silver nanoparticles are prepared by chemical reduction method. Silver Nitrate (AgNO3) is used as the metal precursor and Sodium Borohydride as a reducing agent. The reducing agent Sodium Borohydride (NaBH4) reduces silver nitrate forming the isolated silver nanoparticles. The synthesis of nanoparticles using chemical reduction is rapid and is established. Compared by other methods like biological and physical methods the synthesis of nanoparticles using chemicals is better. With regard to silver nanoparticles they are extremely small, have medical properties, and can be beneficial to mankind, have physical and chemical changes from the bulk molecule when shrunk to a small size, ability of portable usage since the particles are very small. These particles have varied applications; the main application is, it acts as the antibacterial agent. Silver has the property to shrink the cancer cells, which can be destroyed. Silver nanoparticles exhibit new optical properties, which are observed neither in molecules nor in bulk metals. One example is presence of absorption band in visible light region. UV-Visible absorption results confirmed formation of silver particles prepared. We have used energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), Particle size analyzer, UV-Vis spectroscopy and Thermo Gravimetric analysis (TG) to characterize the nanoparticles obtained. The energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) of the nanoparticles dispersion confirmed the presence of elemental silver. The UV/Vis spectra show that an absorption peak, occurring due to Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR), exists at 394.20 nm. The average particle size observed from the Particle size analyzer is 26 nm. The TG analysis shows the percentage of the weight change with respect to the temperature.
