A bit-slice computer for airborne, real-time applications

This paper presents a bit-slice based design for a high performance minicomputer, which has been developed for use in airborne, real-time applications. The processor is intended for use in data acquisition and control in such areas as geophysical surveying. Its suitability to such applications stems from its ability to provide a fast response to external events. This has been made possible through the implementation of an interrupt mechanism at the microprogram level. The main features of the processor and the tradeoffs involved in its design are discussed.
