Theoretical analysis on SAW gyroscopic effect combining with metallic dot array

Weak Coriolis force leads to low detection sensitivity of the surface acoustic wave (SAW) based gyroscope. To enhance the Coriolis force, a metallic dot array was advised to deposit along the SAW propagation path, and it is possible to develop a new progressing wave-based gyroscope with higher sensor sensitivity. In this paper, the approach of partial-wave analysis in layered media was used to analyze theoretically the SAW gyroscopic effect of YZ-LiNbO
3
combining with metallic layer, the SAW velocity is calculated as a function of the medium rotation rate about given coordinate axis. The effects on gyroscopic effects from the metal materials and thickness are depicted in details. The calculated results indicate that thicker Au dots result in higher detection sensitivity and it is consistent with the experimental results.
