New developments in wheelchair standards

Standards for wheelchairs have been and continue to be adapted by federal and private agencies which regulate or purchase wheelchairs. There are currently 22 international wheelchair standards that are either approved or in development. These standards address safety, durability, maneuverability, and transport. Consumers and clinicians must also be aware of wheelchairs standards so that they can be used in their purchasing and prescription decisions. Standards are well on their way towards establishing a higher quality plateau.
