CDMA cellular system capacity in the military environment

The user capacity of a hypothetical CDMA system, with multiple frequency allocation (FA), is studied in terms of area coverage and sensitivity parameters, under a postulated military scenario in which the system is subject to wideband and partial-band noise jamming. The system is assumed to assign call traffic to different FAs under partial-band jamming, thereby forcing the partial-band jamming to employ a less effective wideband jamming option. It is shown that the degradation in capacity resulting from wideband jamming can be restored by adjusting to a slightly lower data rate (additional processing gain of a few dB). These insights are valuable for possible consideration of CDMA cellular technology for future tactical voice/data mobile communication systems.
