The risk of investment in technological innovation

Are investments in technological innovation riskier than other investments? We show that the prevalent view that investment in technological innovation is particularly risky is incomplete. Specifically, while such investments may be very risky when viewed from the perspective of a project manager, they are less so when viewed from the perspective of top management (or the firm), and they are no more risky than average when viewed from the perspective of investors.
