Indoor spatial variation of mobile cellular received signal

The indoor variations of cellular mobile signals are of interest for mobile radio regulators, planners and operators because of the increasing demand for portable handsets, The spatial variation of signals in a laboratory and in an empty room are investigated for signals received from two separate cellular mobile base stations situated 0.7 km and 3.5 km away. For the near base transmitter station, the signals for two frequencies (2l0 kHz apart, from different antenna sectors, North and West) are collected, The plan of the laboratory is shown, indicating the directions of the transmitters. The signals are collected along five parallel lines, greater than 7 m long and 0.3 m apart in one sector of the laboratory. The laboratory is the Network Technology Research Center (NTRC) which is situated at the end of one wing of the Nanyang Technological University Building Complex. It is situated on the basement 2 (level B2). Another set of measurements are made in an empty room (about 3 m*5 m) one floor above the NTRC, In this case the signals are measured along five parallel lines (in the same directions) over approximately 3 m in length.
