Saturable reactors with inductive D-C load: Part I. Steady-state operation

THE operation of saturable-reactor circuits with purely resistive loads, such as incandescent lamps, has been described in many articles.1‾

There are, however, a great many applications especially in connection with feedback control systems where the load consists of an inductance, such as the field of an electric machine, requiring direct current. Yet the writer is not aware of any published mathematical analysis of the inductive d-c case, including effects of variations of line voltage, line frequency, and load resistance. After the completion and first submission of this paper, Mr. Milnes' paper12 dealing, in part, with saturable reactors with inductive d-c load became known to the author.
