A confluence of sagging sales, massive recalls, and the growing promise of mandatory safety regulations have made the past year particularly painful. Hardly the expected reward for an industry that claims today's color sets (thanks to solid state and improved testing) represent the best entertainment bargain ever offered consumers since commercial TV was introduced.
