While remarkable, this fact is not surprising since Switzerland is a country without any fossilfuel resources and its domestic energy wealth relies almost entirely upon hydroelectric (80 percent) generation produced by power stations along a vast network of alpine dams, and the country's major rivers. (The remaining 20 percent of the nation's power generation is today produced in nuclear power plants.)
