A Multicore Server SEE Cross Section Model

The purpose of this project was to develop a reliability model of an HP c7000 BladeSystem multi-core server system at aircraft altitudes. First a definition of system and server critical failure that can be used in a reliability model and can be measured in the radiation test was selected. The BladeSystem was then exposed to 14 MeV neutrons which simulates the effects of the high energy neutrons that are present in the atmosphere at aircraft altitudes. That assembly contained six Intel X5570 based HP server blades and six interconnect modules. The server blades were exercised with fifteen different operating and idle conditions. A mathematical model was then fit to the response data. The use of this cross section model in a system reliability model is illustrated.
