Slowly varying envelope simulation of optical waves in time domain with transparent and absorbing boundary conditions

A method to simulate the time-varying envelope of optical fields in optoelectronic devices is described. This is potentially more efficient than computing the field with the fast carrier, and offers an explicit way to arrive at the steady-state fields. Further, a slowly varying envelope approximation (SVEA) permits the use of many time propagation schemes for different advantages. Boundary conditions and source excitation are compared for the exact formulation and slowly varying envelope approximation using Taylor expansion and leapfrog-based propagators.
