Recognizing and tracking airport runway target in infrared images

In this paper, we show how to detect the airport runway target and how to recognize and track it. Therefore we present an edge sharpening method based on Sobel and Robert operators to detect the runway from the complicated background. Then we use certain characteristics to recognize it and implement effective tracking for it.
