Impact of scattering environment on the performance of spectrum sensing in multiantenna cognitive radio systems

When working with multiple antenna systems, spatial and/or temporal correlation between antennas has a great impact on the overall performance of the communication system. In this paper we present an approximate approach for accounting for both spatial and temporal correlation in cognitive radio devices equipped with multiple antennas. We derive an equivalent number of independent samples, based on the scattering geometry and resulting correlation properties of the received signal. The performance of the system is investigated in terms of the Neyman-Pearson detection criteria. The results of the theoretical analysis are verified through numerical simulations.
