A Low Power Low Noise Amplifier for Ultra Wideband Applications

This paper presents a low-voltage, low-power Ultra wideband (UWB) Low Noise Amplifier (LNA). The proposed LNA is the extension of inductively degenerated common source amplifier, a technique widely used in narrow band designs. A second order Chebyshev filter is embedded in the input network of amplifying device to achieve the input broadband matching. An output-matching buffer is designed to match for maintaining high gain at upper frequency. The LNA is simulated based on UMC 0.18ìm CMOS mixed signal/RF process. With supply voltage of 1V, the post-layout simulation result shows that, the LNA achieves a power gain of 9.7dB with input matching of -- 9dB and input third-order-intercept point (IIP3) of -- 1dBm. In addition, the proposed LNA achieves a minimum noise figure of 3.6dB while consuming 7.1mW, which value is much lower than previously reported state-of-art UWB amplifiers.
