Addressing Tibet's Rangeland Protection in the Face of Climate Change

Rangeland protection and climate change prevention and adaptation share common goals. Rangeland protection funding should be used for climate change prevention and adaptation, and climate change countermeasures support sustainable development of Tibet. Tibet's rangelands account for about 69.1% of the total land area in the region. As one of the major terrestrial ecosystems, Rangelands resources play an important role in the carbon cycle in Tibet. Implementation of practices with positive carbon sink outcomes may have a major bearing on the economics of livestock production, and may be a important climate change prevention and adaptation measure. Carbon sink could be obtained from increases, or reduction in losses, of plant and shrub biomass, and from accumulation, or reduction in losses, of soil carbon.
