Research on positioning control strategy for linear belt-driven

Belt-driven positioning tables are widely used in industries because of their low cost and high-speed capability, but they tend to have low precision due to the elasticity, friction and backlash. This paper presents a study on point to point positioning during high-speed and high-precision. The proposed control includes two position controllers, one is closed loop with encoder attached motor to suppress vibration and reject disturbance. The other is following direct load position feedback using linear encoders to realize precision positioning. The controllers are implemented on an industrial high-speed belt-drive table, with excellent results obtained.
