Numerical simulation of electromagnetic stirring in purification of polysilicon

In the purification process of solar grade silicon with metallurgical technology, the stirring device play a crucial role. Electromagnetic stirring (EMS), due to not bringing into extraneous components, and achieving the control of variety of stirring methods and intensity, is seen as an ideal stirring method. The author established macro-transport physical coupled mathematical model in the process of electromagnetic stirring of silicon firstly; And then the author solved this model coupled the electromagnetic field and flow field by using the finite element and finite difference methods, and investigated the relationship between electromagnetic stirring parameters and electromagnetic field and flow field. The results show that, the electromagnetic field rotating horizontally in the melt is well-distributed. Magnetic flux density decreased gradually from edge to the center because of skin effect. The distribution of velocity field in the melt is similar to electromagnetic force distribution. Current intensity and frequency have a greatly impact on the electromagnetic field and velocity field distribution.
