Rewritable holographic image storage with BRD96N film

BR-D96N is a genetically mutated product of bacteriorhodopsin (BR) with obvious improved photochromic effect, which has shown great potential in Rewritable Holographic Storage. In this paper, different kinds of holograms are recorded in a BR- D96N film by using different kind of holographic storage technologies, including transmission type holographic recording and reflection type holographic recording technology, reference beam reconstruction and phase conjugated beam reconstruction technology, different kinds of polarization holographic recording technologies, and collinear holographic recording technology. And the diffraction efficiencies and diffractive images' signal-to-noise-ratios (SNR) of different kinds of holograms are compared. The experimental results show that, compared with transmission type holographic recording, reflection type holographic recording hologram has lower diffraction efficiency and higher SNR. Compared with reference beam reconstruction, the phase conjugated beam reconstruction can effectively correct the phase aberration caused by the mis-adjustment of optical setup. Compared with parallel polarization holograms, in orthogonal polarization holograms the scattering noise can be filtered, so can get high SNR, in which the orthogonal circularly polarization hologram also has high diffraction efficiency. Compared with traditional non-collinear holographic storage system, in collinear holographic storage system, simple optical setup, small volume, low environmental effect and the high density storage can be realized. And it is proved that the BR-D96N film has advantages like short storage time, high light sensitivity, high reversibility, long-term stability and easy used, which can be used as a high sensitive dynamic rewritable holographic storage media.
