Research on carbonation mechanism of concrete

There are a great number of concrete structures existing in the atmospheric environment. The process of industrialization has led to the severe air pollution. The density of CO
₂
increases so severely that the carbonization of concrete is increasingly concerned about. CO
₂
is the most ordinary acidic material in the atmospheric environment. In this paper, the carbonization process of CO
₂
was analyzed through the theory of diffusion and mass transfer, and the mechanism of carbonation was revealed, which is significant for the durability design and for the further investigation of reinforcement corrosion and service life prediction of concrete structures.
