Effect of Grinding Time on Microstructure of Porous Ceramics and Decolorizing Ability of Mmalachite Green

Taking diatomite as the main material, using the solid phase sintering process, diatomite-based porous ceramic whose median powder size and specific surface area of powder are 1.28um, 39.25m
²
/g, mean pore size of sintered body is 157.8nm respectively was prepared by grinding time 80min. Effect of grinding time on microstructure and properties of samples, such as, powder granularity and its specific surface area, pore size distribution of sintered body, has been investigated in details. Samples were characterized by SEM, BET, and mercury porosimeter. The mean pore size of the samples fired and median powder size decrease largely, and specific surface area increase with grinding time prolonging while t=20~80min, thenceforth, the pore size distribution range becomes wider and appears conglomeration, Decolorizing research on malachite-green indicated that decolorizing rate of porous ceramic improved with grinding time lengthening and arrived to 80.8% in 7h and t = 80min, but changes were relatively slight in t = 40min.
