Cast metals modification by means of nanoscale powders

Commercially pure aluminum and carbon steel with 0.35%C were modified during cast process using nanodimensional powders and bulk master alloys. As a result, aluminum got extremely refined structure both for nanopowders and bulk master alloys. On the contrary, steel didn?t get any beneficial effect from modifying in any cases. It appears from this fact, that modifying effect depends on time-temperature characteristics of the casting process.
