A development model for disabled user support functions in the TRON project: the work of the TRON Enableware Research Group

The free market alone does not guarantee an ample supply of software with support functions for physically challenged computer users. In the TRON Project the TRON Enableware Research Group has been established as a university centered volunteer organization. The work of this group includes drawing up software specifications for functions supporting disabled users, developing prototypes, and providing the results free of charge to software companies. These companies then develop software products based on these results and offer them on the market. By adopting this development model, it has been possible to supply the market with close to ideal support functions without depending on the whims of specific corporations.
