Array wide instantaneous bandwidth capability from using a distributed architecture approach

High range resolution waveforms are required in future shipboard radar systems to support TBM discrimination and target ID modes. These modes require significantly improved range resolution compared to existing shipboard radar system search and track waveforms. One potential antenna system approach for addressing this new requirement is to combine stretch pulse compression with phase/frequency beamsteering at the subarray level. A feasibility study of using this combination has been performed to assess this approach against a set of strawman TBM discrimination requirements. A simulation was developed to observe and quantify first-order performance trends due to various parameters of the system.
