Acoustic Topology Optimization of a Truck Cab Based on Coupled Panel Contribution Analysis

Computer simulation technology is of increasing importance in the vibro-acoustic analysis and design of complex mechanical systems, such as vehicles, ships, aircraft, etc. In this paper, an acoustic topology optimization method based on coupled panel contribution analysis of cab is proposed. The finite element structure model and cavity model of a real heavy duty truck cab are built. The structural modes, cavity modes and the structural--acoustic coupling modes are analyzed. Then the panel acoustic contribution analysis is carried out to find the panels which contribute most to the sound pressure inside the cab. Finally, the panel's shape modification is proposed with acoustics topology optimized. The result shows the sound pressure level on the side of the driver's right ear can be reduced by 5 dB at most. Necessary tests are also administered to validate the models.
