Spur reduction techniques in sine output direct digital synthesis

This paper reviews the spur reduction techniques used in the sine output direct digital synthesizers (DDSs). In each method the spur reduction properties and trade-offs are investigated. The analysis is restricted only to phase and amplitude quantization errors. Three novel spur reduction methods in the DDS will be presented: modified Nicholas phase accumulator, a high-pass filtered amplitude dither and a tunable amplitude error feedback structure.
