Fuzzy set theory and problems of the design and control of power systems and subsystems

This paper presents results of research and experience in the use of fuzzy set theory methodology for handling and overcoming various forms of uncertainty in the design and control of power systems and subsystems. Approaches to solving fundamental problems of constructing fuzzy estimates of uncertain parameters, comparing alternatives in a fuzzy environment, developing basic principles and concrete methods of monocriteria and multicriteria decision making in a fuzzy environment are briefly described. The results of the paper are of a universal character, have found and are being found applications in: the design of distribution systems; optimization of reliability in distribution systems; state estimation, fast analysis, and operation of distribution systems; load management in power systems (power and energy shortage allocation at different levels of territorial, temporal, and situational hierarchy of management) and in industrial power systems (real time control of active load).
