The application of digital signal processing to acoustic pyrometry

This paper describes digital signal processing methods that are being applied to acoustic pyrometry. The hostile environment and high background noise encountered in the furnace volume of large utility, recovery and waste-to-energy boilers requires the application of robust signal processing methods in order to extract the flight times of acoustic waves passing through the combustion zone. Multipath acoustic methods are also used to develop isothermal maps in near "real time" for the analysis and control of the combustion process.
