Laser Protection Materials against Optical Intensity and Protection Mechanism

Laser protection materials based on linear effect are only sensitive to optical wavelength, which are protection materials against optical wavelength, while laser protection materials based on nonlinear principle and phase transition effect are the protection materials against optical intensity, which can overcome the defects of linear protection materials, and are expected to realize multi-wavelength and high-power laser protection. On the basis of comparing their protection performance, phase transition laser protection materials, semiconductor materials, C

and the derivatives, metal phthalocyanine coordination compounds (MPC), and inorganic metal cluster compounds are briefly introduced and their respective laser protection principles are also expounded. Furthermore, based on the advantages of carbon nanotubes materials in low optical limiting threshold value, quick response speed, and wide protection waveband, its application progress in optical limiting is summarized, where optical limiting principle in different experimental environment is highlighted. This paper concludes that the further focus in researching laser protection materials against optical intensity is on materials practical and devices so as to accelerate and improve its application in laser protection field.
