Performance and Frame Structure of Fractional Frequency Reuse in Multi-User Spatial Multiplexing System

This paper studies the impact of fractional frequency reuse (FFR) on multi-user (MU) unitary preceding system with limited feedback. Various of FFR frame structure are investigated, and the corresponding MU system with multi-cell is analyzed. First, we model the system capacity based on channel state, preceding matrix and fractional frequency reuse pattern. It can achieve high performance by choosing the optimal reuse pattern. Then, we propose a new frame structure design, which introduces an integration of time and frequency division in FFR (TFD-FFR). This paper evaluates its performance and reveals its advantage compared with classical FFR. Full-reuse to partial reuse ratio (FPR) is defined to analyze the frame structure's impact on system capacity. The simulation result shows that the low FPR can improve system fairness with tiny sacrifice on system capacity and boost edge user throughput.
