A genetic algorithm for total assessment of telecommunication sectors

This paper presents a genetic algorithm (GA) to assessment the decision making units (DMU). The Telecommunication sectors ased on standards indicators identified y international telecommunication union (ITU) are considered for total assessment y the proposed approach. The indicators are categorized as telephone network size, other services, quality of service, traffic, tariffs, staff, demography, economy, information technology, broadcasting and mobile services. To present the applicability of the proposed approach, data for the year 2003 of 62 developed and developing countries are used. A total of 9 indicators are considered, out of which 4 are inputs and 5 are outputs respectively. The results of GA are verified y Principle Component Analysis (PCA) approach. The results show weak and strong points of each sector and identify the most efficient inputs or outputs, which can aid management in overall assessment. The proposed approach of this study may e easily used for assessment of other sectors.
