User-centered metropolitan spatial service infrastructure: Web GIS for society

Although Geographic information Systems (GISystems) have been widely used in both public and private sectors, geographic information is still not effectively used by common citizens for their everyday's life. A metropolitan spatial service infrastructure (MSSI) is a new vision to build a societal GIS allowing every citizen to create, share, and use geographic information and services. We propose our vision of MSSI and introduce a demonstration of Tianjin guide portal which implements the MSSI idea and conceptual framework. The user-centered design can encourage the development of rich user-oriented services tailed for personalized needs.
