Electrification of liquid ejected from a nozzle

The streaming current of a high-conductivity liquid was measured with a nozzle and receiving tank system, and the polarity change of the receiving current was observed without changing the flow pattern. It was found that the distance of the receiving cup remarkably affects the streaming current, and the polarity of the current is reversed from positive to negative at a certain distance. From the relation between the distance where the polarity is reversed and the distance where the jet is split into a few droplets, it turned out that the two distances are mutually dependent. To explain this phenomenon, a simple charge diffusion model is proposed.<
