Electrical tree propagation: from stochastic models to a quantitative physical description

The authors review the progress made in the last ten years towards establishing a quantitative physical description of electrical trees in solids which is capable of generating both their structures and associated propagation behaviour. In this respect the main theoretical problem posed by electrical trees is that of a physical origin for their branched structures, which can range from an open branch form to a compact bush or ball.
