Exploiting the process capability of position geometric tolerance according GD&T ASME Y14.5M

This article will look at a methodology to estimate the capability of position tolerance of geometrical feature patterns according to the ASME Y14.5M-1994 standard. The effects of the complexity, number of geometrical features, of the pattern, the systematic error of the machine, and the process-related variations are included in the calculation of the tolerance's capability. To identify the distribution functions of the tolerances, an explicit mathematical model was developed based on the three parameters presented herewith. With these distributions, we can create a new method of exploitation for the capability of position tolerances. One study case is presented to illustrate the potential of the developed method.
