Cross slot antenna with open ended truncated patch feed for ultra wide band applications

A novel design of an ultra-wideband (UWB) slot antenna is presented. This antenna operates as a transmitter and receiver antenna. Effects of the antenna dimensional parameters are studied through experimental and simulation results. The design procedures are developed and verified for UWB frequency band. Antenna gain and directivity at bore sight and in their maximum states are close to each other and indicate high radiation efficiency. Antenna is fed by a micro strip line which ends in a Truncated Patch. The antenna has a slotted ground plane which is in the shape of a cross slot. The frequency band considered is from 3 to 10.6 GHz, which has been approved as a commercial UWB band by FCC. This antenna is for 10 m short range communication to transmit data in wirelesss medium at a data rate greater than 50 Mbps. ), VSWR and Radiation Pattern are simulated using ADS software. The designed antenna has been fabricated and tested. The experimental and simulation results exhibit good impedance bandwidth, radiation pattern, and relatively constant gain over the entire band of frequency.
