Application of organic thin film parasitic to patch antenna

The ZnBIP thin film can be considered as a parasitic equivalent LC circuit being electromagnetically coupled to square ring corner truncated copper driven patch. Antenna gain is a variable to describe the parasitic attribute of the patterned ZnBIP. For coupled effective loss tangent (=σ/εω) where σ is the conductivity, ω is the resonant frequency and dispersive characteristic ε(ω), can potentially be considered as the intrinsic material characteristics. When effective conductivity gets higher, the ZnBIP coupled patch acts more like a metal; thus, the effective dielectric coefficient of the thin film gets closer to the value of copper. In contrary, when the effective dielectric coefficient gets higher than the air, both effective loss tangent and conductivity must get low. Conclusively, in measurements, our study reveals the patterned ZnBIP thin film functions as equivalent parasitic LC circuit electromagnetically. The material parameter, effective loss tangent of the ZnBIP coupled patch is responsible for the unique characteristic of increasing the antenna efficiency as well as modifying the antenna gain.
