Orthogonal CDMA for wireless PBX and cordless telephony applications

Summary form only given. Presents a patented orthogonal CDMA waveform for wireless PBX and cordless telephony applications in the unlicensed PCS and ISM bands. This waveform offers significant capacity advantages over TDMA and conventional CDMA in a multi-cell environment. Because navigation capability is built into the communication waveform, it can also provide user location to authorized public safety or health personnel when the wireless user makes an emergency 911 call, thereby supporting the FCC proposed rule making for the enhanced-911 (E-911) service. Signal orthogonality is achieved via the use of low chipping rate Rademacher-Walsh codes, monitoring of the receive time base errors of each of the reverse channels, and an outbound orderwire for transmit timing adjustment. This waveform has been proposed as one of the four emerging standards for the North American Wireless User Premises Equipment (WUPE) in the unlicensed PCS band.
