Development and evaluation of artificial intelligence techniques for tactical decision support systems

To facilitate research into multiagent planning issues, the Command and Control Testbed Using Simulation (CACTUS) and the Situation-based Autonomous Reasoner in a GBB (ground-based battle) Environment (SARGE) have been developed. CACTUS is a simulation of combat operations for platoon-sized units in battalion-level engagements. Those battlefield elements that affect the planning process of the formation commander are modeled in detail. Units with SARGE commanders take goal-level instructions and SARGE then reasons about plans to achieve those goals and generates the necessary simulation-level instructions to act on the plan.<
