This wire goes where?

With the advent of automation, PLC, and DCS systems, correctly wiring sensors to controllers is becoming a greater problem. The design engineer must logically connect the correct input(s) to the desired output. The installer must accurately follow the designer's wishes, follow all local and national codes, at the lowest cost, while producing a neat orderly professional-appearing product. Plant maintenance personnel must be able to follow the equipment through its life cycle making adjustments, additions, and deletions. It is noted that all of these can be accomplished with a few rules of the road and a small redefinition of the problem: (1) physical wire points will be identified, not wires; (2) no wire point will have more than two wire ends; (3) each wire point must be uniquely identified and correlated with other project documents; and (4) each wire point must have a unique label.<
