Design and simulation of a dual-core photonic crystal fiber for dispersion compensation over E to L wavelength band

In this article, a novel dual-core photonic crystal fiber (DC-PCF) for dispersion compensation is presented. The proposed DC-PCF has relatively high negative dispersion over a wide wavelength range which covers E, S, C, and L telecommunication wavelength bands. By using the numerical method, the dispersion profile of the DC-PCF is optimized in terms of three air-hole diameters to achieve desirable negative dispersion. The validity of the proposed design is carried out by employing a 2-D finite difference time domain method (FDTD) with perfectly matched layers (PML). Macro-bending loss performance of the designed PCF is also studied and it is found that the fiber shows low bending losses for the smallest feasible bending radius of 5 mm.
