Self-referenced SPR sensing via simultaneous excitation of long- and short-range surface plasmons

We demonstrate a novel surface-plasmon resonance sensor that can distinguish surface binding from bulk refractive index changes. This is accomplished by simultaneous interrogation of the sensed medium with long- and short-range surface-plasmon polaritons.
