Efficient conversion of light from sparse laser arrays into single-lobed far-fields using phase structures

We demonstrate a new optical technique that converts light from a sparse array of mutually coherent sources into a single-lobed far-field with a theoretical efficiency approaching 100%. Initial experimental results show conversion efficiencies of 82%.
