Arbitrary-Difference Precise-Integration Method for the Computation of Electromagnetic Transients in Single-Phase Nonuniform Transmission Line

In this paper, a new method called arbitrary-difference precise-integration (ADPI) algorithm is proposed to calculate the electromagnetic transients in single-phase nonuniform transmission line. The new method employs arbitrary difference in space domain and precise integration in time domain, respectively. It not only can create the difference equations arbitrarily according to the characteristics of the nonuniform transmission line but also can remove the Courant–Friedrich–Levy (CFL) stability condition restraint. The method presented in this paper is used to calculate the electromagnetic transients in a vertical conductor. The results show that compared with other methods such as finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) and electromagnetic transients program (EMTP) method, this new algorithm provides higher efficiency since the time step used in the simulation is no longer restricted by the stability condition.
