Traffic and network modeling for next generation applications

In this paper, we examine potential traffic loading on next-generation broadband networks due to various types of advanced applications. A baseline traffic profile is developed versus measured benchmarks, and this serves as a starting point for various "what if' scenarios. To examine the impact of group multimedia applications on networks, a network analysis framework is developed, allowing various deployment topologies (e.g., distributed, centralized) to be analyzed. Finally, there is a brief discussion on how network overlay technology incorporating back- to-back user agents (B2BUA) can be an enabler for various application deployments scenarios.
