Splitting-based dynamic equivalencing in power systems

This paper describes the concept of an innovative approach for aggregation of machines for various power system disturbances on the basis of the fictive splitting of external machines. This splitting strategy is used as a basis for generating accurate dynamic equivalents expressing the reduced electromechanical behaviour of the area being equivalenced which can be applied in transient stability studies. The approach is developed on the basis of splitting factors of mathematical reduction techniques, such as the Fuzzy theory and principal component analysis. The relevant property of this approach consists of incorporating of new defined electromechanical equivalent parameters that it significantly improves the accuracy and efficiency of identity-based or splitting-based dynamic equivalents and thereby enhances their effectiveness and application. Test of this approach have been performed and evaluated on an interconnected 16 machine power system.
