P-H model of power systems installed with a flywheel energy storage for the dynamic analysis

The paper establishes the linear Phillips-Heffron model of a power system installed with flywheel energy storage (FES) based on a doubly-fed induction machine (DFIM) and demonstrates the application of the model in analysis the damping effect of the flywheel energy storage and designing a power system stabilizer based on the FES to improve power system oscillation stability. The case of a single-machine infinite bus system installed with FES based on DFIM in which a DFIM and a synchronous machine operate in parallel shows that the FES contributes little damping effect to power system oscillations and the effectiveness of the FES stabilizer superimposed on active power control loop to improve the damping effect.
