Scanning atom probe study of graphite nanofibers

Graphite nanofibers (GNF) were grown on a SUS304 needle by the thermal CVD method. Source gases were CO (50%) and H
₂
(50%) at 100 kPa, and growth temperature was 600 degC for 20 minutes. The SUS needle is mounted in the scanning atom probe (SAP) and mass analyzed by applying DC and pulsed voltages to the specimen at room temperature. The mass resolution m/Deltam of the SAP is better than 1000. The field emission characteristics are also examined by operating the SAP as a field emission microscope.
